Project Goals

Churchill Valley Mitigation Bank Goals and objectives will improve and protect diverse aquatic resources by applying process, form, ecological, and hydraulic based approaches to improving aquatic functions to on-site stream and wetlands. Below are specific watershed goals:

  • Restore stream-floodplain processes by re-establishing connectivity between the stream and historic floodplain, remove legacy sediments, and create hyporheic zones where the stream has incised to bedrock.

  • Restore wetland by expanding/establishing stream-wetland complexes, rehabilitating and enhancing existing headwater wetlands, and increasing attenuation and filtration of stormwater runoff.

  • Improve biological diversity by floodplain restoration techniques, planting native species to increase vegetation and habitat diversity, while controlling and managing invasive species.
