Pre-Construction

Located in the Neuse 01 HUC 8, Lake Wendell is in the Upper Buffalo Creek sub-watershed 030202011502 for the Neuse Regional Watershed Plan. WLS completed this project for the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Mitigation Services as a full-delivery project for stream and buffer mitigation providing in-lieu fee mitigation credits.

The project restored, enhanced, preserved, and permanently protected five stream reaches and adjacent riparian buffers, totaling approximately 4,185 linear feet of streams and 11-acres of riparian buffers. Additionally, WLS implemented Lake Wendell as part of five “project clusters” within the local catchment.  These projects combined various measures including riparian wetland restoration, stream restoration, and agricultural best management practices to prescriptively address local water quality impairments.

Our restoration provided significant ecological improvements and functional uplift through stream and aquatic restoration and reduction of nutrient and sediment loads within the watershed.
