Pre-Construction

Pancake is a mitigation bank located in the Inner Coastal Plain within the Neuse River (HUC 03020201) below Falls Lake. The project provides provide riparian buffer and nutrient offset credits for the development (both existing and proposed), or to offset NPDES permitted wastewater nutrient sources requiring mitigation or offset. WLS received the North Carolina Environmental Quality – Division of Water Resources (NCDWR) site viability letter for the Bank dated February 16, 2024. Pancake is one project site within the WLS Breakfast Umbrella Bank.  

The project will restore Neuse 03020201 buffers to reduce non-point source discharge of contaminants into streams within the Neuse River basin.

Project Goals

Promotion of agronomic farm management techniques and implementation of agricultural best management practices through nutrient management and wetland restoration. 

  • Converting existing agriculture land use practices into a dense and diverse vegetated riparian forest. The riparian areas will be replanted with appropriate native tree species. 
  • Restoration of the riparian buffer and adjacent riparian areas will provide stabilization and improve water quality to tributaries that drain directly to Moccasin Creek. 
  • Restore Neuse 03020201 buffers to reduce non-point discharge of contaminants into streams within the Neuse River Basin.
